Restore a backup yourself in Plesk
On Plesk servers, you restore backups yourself, without a ticket, directly via Backup & Restore in the panel. That is where the daily server backups are stored, and you decide whether to restore everything or only specific files and databases.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- Access to the Plesk panel: see Log in to the hosting panel.
- The version you need must be within the retention period. Which points in time are available is explained in How often is my data backed up?
Step by step
Section titled “Step by step”- Log in to the Plesk panel.
- Open
Websites & Domainsand clickBackup & Restore. - In the list, select the backup with the point in time you need.
- Click
Restoreand choose: full backup orSelected objects, meaning individual domains, directories, databases or mail accounts. - Confirm your selection and let the restore run. For large subscriptions, this takes a few minutes.
- Afterwards, check the website or the restored data.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The point in time you need is missing from the list
Section titled “The point in time you need is missing from the list”The backup is outside the retention period (14 days in the panel) and has already been overwritten.
Solution: The sooner the damage is noticed, the more versions you can choose from. On servers, an older version may still be available in the platform backup; we restore it via ticket. For the future, a backup extension increases the retention period, see How often is my data backed up?.
You only need a single file, not an entire domain
Section titled “You only need a single file, not an entire domain”A full restore would be far more than you need.
Solution: In step 4, select Selected objects and navigate to the specific file or directory. For databases, there is also a dedicated method: Restore a database.
The restore keeps running
Section titled “The restore keeps running”Large subscriptions with many files take time. Canceling does not make it faster; it leaves a mixed state behind.
Solution: Let it run. If the process is clearly stuck after a long time, open a ticket. We will check the task on the server side.
